Folic acid deficiency can also cause
birth defects and increase the risk of breast and colorectal cancer. In
addition, Pelton explained, folic acid is one of the nutrients necessary
to metabolize homocysteine, elevated levels of which are a major risk for
cardiovascular disease.
The book then goes on to detail problems

B6, including depression and insomnia. Studies document, for example, that
women who take oral contraceptives have higher rates of depression, said

disease in women is due to taking estrogen medications for years, and they

cardiovascular function. Among the major types of medications that do so
are cholesterol-lowering agents, antidiabetic drugs, blood pressure
lowering medications, beta blockers and tricyclic antidepressants. Pelton
suggested that chronic depletion of coenzyme Q10 may be responsible for
the growing incidence of congestive heart failure.
What to do? People should take
